According to a report from the Scottish Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB) numerous Scots are facing unfair and difficult employment conditions.

Last year more the CAB dealt with more than 46,000 reports of unfair treatment in the workplace, a 5% rise from the previous year. The report stated that employees were being left in "difficult, complex and miserable" work practices due to the treatment they received.

Worryingly, the group reported that the number of incidents seen in the workplace is set to rise in 2015.

Informed Of Dismissal

The report found that numerous employees were dismissed in unfair circumstances with many being let go due to being off as a result of illness, taking a holiday or even becoming pregnant.

Statistics from the CBA found that some employees were found of their dismissal via text message.

Citizen Advice Scotland’s (CAS) report titled “Fair Enough”  recommended provisions that could improve working conditions for employees, and solutions to the many problems addressed in the report from the CAB.

Solutions

CAS spokesman Rob Gowans said:"Sadly it's clear that there are many rogue employers in Scotland, and also that the system is in many ways stacked against workers who want to challenge unfairness at work.

"Some of the unfair employment practices we see put workers in difficult, complex and miserable situations. "All of the problems we identify in this report can be fixed, and we suggest ways of doing that.

"It is also in the interests of government and society as a whole that fair employment is promoted.

"Workers in low quality, stressful jobs have poorer general health, and poor daily quality of life than other groups - even those who are unemployed.

"It is also important to ensure that unscrupulous employers who wilfully undermine their employees' basic rights do not gain an unfair advantage over fair employers."
