Figures based on September’s property markets showed a minor increase in the number of properties sold with an increase in the number of properties on the market cited as the main reason.

Agreed sales rose throughout Scotland in September, with 32% more chartered surveyors reporting an increase in the number of properties sold.

Property Boost in Scotland and UK

The boost in the Scottish property market was seen as one of the reasons for the UK property market overall hitting a 16 month high. The study, which was conducted by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors showed that there was a 23% increase in the demand for property in Scotland with a 16% increase of properties on the market.

The increasing price of property, in general, is considered by some as the main reason for selling properties in Scotland. However, according to the same study, high-end property in Scotland fell for the first time in two years with a 0.7% decrease in high-end properties in the last quarter. Experts warned that although there seemed to be an increase in the number of properties, especially low-end properties for sale, the reduction of high-end properties could result in a loss of tax receipts for the Scottish Government.
